Past Simple

C. We use the Past Simple to talk about:
a. something that happened once in the past. (e.g. I met my wife in 1983.)
b. something that happened again and again in the past. (e.g. When I was a boy I walked a mile to school every day.)
c. something that was true for some time in the past. (e.g. I lived abroad for ten years.)
d. we often use phrases with 'ago' with the past tense. (e.g. I met my wife a long time ago.)

C1. The Past Tense (complete action) is formed by adding '-ed'. But there are a lot of irregular past tenses in English.

C2. Questions and negatives:
a. We use ‘did’ to make questions with the past tense. (e.g. When did you meet your wife?) But more Questions in the questions (e.g. Who discovered penicillin? Who wrote Don Quixote?)
b. We use ‘didn’t (did not)’ to make negatives with the past tense. (e.g. They didn’t go to Spain this year.)
