Past and Present Perfect (2)

E2. We can use the Present Perfect for new or recent happenings. (e.g. I've repaired the TV. It's working OK now)
a. use the Present Perfect to give new information. But if we continue to talk about it, we normally use the Past Simple. (e.g. A: Ow! I've burnt myself. B; How did you do that? A: I picked up a hot dish)
b. use the Past Simple (not the Present Perfect) for things that are not recent or new. (e.g. My mother grew up in Korea (not has grown))
c. use the Past to ask When ~ ? Or What time ~? (e.g. What time did you finish work?)

E3. Present Perfect: I've done a lot of work today/ this week/ since 1985. (a period time that continuous until now) (e.g. It's the last day of your holiday. You say: It's been a really good holiday. I've really enjoyed it)
a. Past Simple: I did a lot of work yesterday/ last week/ from 1995 to 2001. (a finished time) (e.g. After you come back from holiday you say: It was a really good holiday. I really enjoyed it)
