Phrasal Verb: Break Away

break away means separate, or to leave, or to escape suddenly from someone who is holding you or keeping you prisoner (e.g. Many English people wished to break away from the EU.)
break away from someone means leave someone who is holding you. (e.g. Ann broke away from her family, but now she regrets it.)
