G. We use negative questions especially to show surprise. or when you expect the listener to agree with us.
G1. the meaning of yes and no in answers to negative questions.
G2. the word order in negative questions beginning Why … ?
G3. Where has Tom gone? Do you know where Tome has gone? (not Do you know where has Tome gone?) 
G4. We say: What time does the film begin? but Do you know what time the film begin? (not does the film begin)
G5. use if or whether there is no other question word (what, why etc.)
G6. direct: The police officer said to us. ‘Where are you going?’ Reported: The police officer asked us where we were going?
G7. In reported speech the verb usually changes to the past (were, closed etc.)
