Question (1)

A. We make questions by:
A1. moving an auxiliary to the front of the clause.
A2. or by moving a modal to the front of the clause.
A3. The present simple and the past simple have no auxiliary. We make questions by adding the auxiliary do/does for the present simple or did for the past simple.

B. Yes/No questions are questions to which the answer is Yes or No. We make Yes/No questions by putting the subject, they, after the first part of the verb.
B1. We make negatives by putting not after the first part of the verb.
B2. In spoken English we often reduce not to n’t: They aren’t working hard.
