A. Type of houses/ places people live

1. Detached house: not joined to any other house
2. Semi-detached house: joined to one other house
3. Self-contained flat: does not share facilities with any other
4. Terraced house: joined to several houses to form a raw
5. Cottage: small house in the country or in a village
6. Bungalow: house with only one story
7. Bedsit: bedroom and living room all in one
8. Villa: large house with big gardens or a rented house in a holiday resort/ tourist area
9. Time-share: holiday flat or house where you have the right to live one or two weeks a year
10. Studio: a ​small ​apartment ​designed to be ​lived in by one or two ​people, usually with one ​large ​room for ​sleeping and ​living in, a ​bathroom and sometimes a ​separate ​kitchen

B. Places in the home

1. Master/ Main bedroom: the largest, most important bedroom
2. Spare bedroom/ guest (bed)room: not used everyday
3. Utility room: for washing machine and freezer, etc.
4. Shed: small building separated from the house usually for storing garden tools
5, Attic/loft: space in the roof of a house used for storing things
6. Cellar: room below ground level, no window, used for storing things
7. Basement: room below ground level, windows, for living or working
8. Landing: flat area at the top of a staircase
9. Hall/ hallway: open area as you come into a house
10. Porch: covered area before an entrance-door
11. Pantry or larder: large cupboard for storing food
12. Terrace or patio: paved area between house and garden for sitting and eating, etc.
13. Drive: short road leading from the street to the house
